4 reasons for which a 40 gb hard drive still rocks
As far as I am concerned a 40 gb hard drive is the best choice for most of the users today. This might seem odd I know as you can very easily find hard drives with a much larger capacity. I will give enough reasons to convince you. 1)First of all a 40 gb hard drive is cheap. And by this I mean literally just the price. Right about now you can easily find such a hard drive at prices ranging from 30 to 60 dollars. They really are affordable and will sure do the job. 2)Now you might think that the space available is not enough. Wrong. 40 gigs of space are more than plenty if you use them right. I mean, really, I keep seeing these friends of mine having those huge storage space from the latest hard drives available and I honestly don't like it. I don't like it because it tends to make you forget deleting. A hard drive is not a proper backup tool. If you have a lot of sensitive data you shouldn't back it up on the same drive you actively use, because sooner or later you will get burned. A smaller capacity hard drive will remind you to backup every once in a while. 3)Another reason for which the 40 gb hard drive is my favorite, is the fact that the FAT32 partition system allows a maximum partition size of 32 gb. I guess you see where I'm aiming. I am an adept of the two partition system: one system partition of around 10 gigs and a working partition of around 30 gigs. Why two partitions you may ask. The reason should be obvious enough: if (or rather when) something goes wrong with your Windows partition and you have to format it you won't lose all the data, you can simply move all the sensitive data to the other partition, without having to employ some complex backup solutions. I know that this seems to contradict the reason stated above, but you should aim for is balance and I guess that this is the main advantage of such a hard drive. 4)Another reason that makes the 40 gb hard drive my favorite is the fact that I am using one right now. Not a very good reason you might think. It is a very good reason in fact. It is a Western Digital and I have for more than 3 years. Now how about this for a reason? I still have some doubts regarding the very high density hard drives available today. I know that they have many data security devices incorporated, but still I feel that the chance of getting one of these gone awfully wrong is bigger. In other words I trust my good old hard drive and has never developed a single bad sector so far. I'm really proud of it. To keep it simple a 40 gb hard drive offers 4 major qualities: it is affordable, it is appropriate, it is convenient and it is reliable. What on earth do you want more?
